HOUSE OF KHORJIN

Khorjin rugs are primarily hand-knotted rugs reflecting distinctively tribal and nomadic life. The word ‘Khorjin’ itself comes from Persian and refers to a double saddlebag used by monadic tribes. Khorjin rugs evolved from these practical bags and were eventually woven in the style of the khorjin bag faces. Its design often reflects the two sides of the original saddlebag, though the designs are predominantly geometric, featuring a rich vocabulary of tribal motifs. Typically woven with hand-spun wool, bright and contrasting colors characterize Khorjin rugs and often lack a distinct, elaborate border system. They are valued for their authenticity, the artistry of their geometric designs, and the quality of their handcraftsmanship.
